Like a jewel handpicked from the chocolate swamps of the Dirty South, hails the Goddaughter from the Muddy Waters of New Orleans 2Meka Diaz of WNMG/TRU Records. No stranger to the music industry, 2Meka is the protégé of former Master P’s No Limit Records and TRU Records general Corey “C-Murder” Miller. Although C-Murder has been incarcerated for a wrongful conviction since 2002, he continues to have a powerful influence in the music industry. He recently passed the torch to his long-time friend Cuttboy G-Dinero by naming him President of TRU Records. In an industry that is now heavily dominated by beautiful vixens, Meka found a way to claim her own lane with the single B.M.S (Bang My Sh**) which she describes as “a record that just took off.” “COVID-19 got alotta musicians in the studio. I had decided to focus strictly on activism, criminal justice reform, acting, and branding my voice tags and voiceovers. We have lost so many friends and family to COVID, the world as we once knew it is forever changed. Like so many musicians, we ended up back in the studio doing what we always loved doing….making music. I was downstairs and heard G-Dinero putting the track together…I heard it and ran in the studio and started rapping a few lines. G was like ‘let’s drop it now.’ We recorded the song in one session, got it mixed and mastered, and sent it to a few DJs. A team of Coalition DJs was the first music professionals to hear it and I got rave reviews from male and female DJs. They encouraged me to push the record and that’s what we did. Everyone that heard it loved it. I wrote the whole treatment for the video and wanted to represent different shades of black women while giving it a bit of an HBCU feel with bass drummers syncing to the 808s. We sent the record and video pretty much everywhere. Guess what, P1 radio stations started playing it, Music Choice picked it up, it charted on The Urban Influencer Rap Mixshow Weekly Charts, TikTok dancers jumped on it, it started being placed on mixed tapes…it just took off.”
“Of course C-Murder is thrilled. He always pushes me and encourages me. I’m glad he’s happy with my work. It’s been a long time coming. We’ve watched Cee survive in a situation most people would have crumbled. He’s been wrongfully convicted and the evidence has proven this over and over. That is what encouraged me to reach out to Olumide Odebunmi of ID Network’s Reasonable Doubt. I sent Olu everything that me and Bree had been working on over the years to prove his innocence. ID Network decided to feature his story on their show and it was on this episode the only 2 witnesses for the prosecution recanted their testimony and admitted they were coerced into lying on Cee. That was a supernatural breakthrough. We know he’s coming home. We won’t ever give up the fight. That’s how my late mother, who was an activist herself, taught me and raised me. Keep fighting, fight for yourself, fight for others, always fight.”
After relocating to Atlanta, Meka was first signed to Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Records and appeared as a guest artist on Cuttboy G-Dinero’s single “Tilt Ya Hat” which also featured Pastor Troy. The video was voted on BET’s “Ya Heard” with over 455,000 votes. Meka made appearances on many joint records including Cuttboy G-Dinero’s “Woedee.” She also appears on Boosie Badazz and C-Murder’s joint album Penitentiary Chances on the track “Remember Me.”
“There’s no turning back. Once it’s in their ears and the streets like it, the clubs like it, you can’t turn back so I’m going to enjoy this moment. I love Nicki, Meg and Cardi and all the new girls. I love Missy, Remy and Kim and all the female rappers that came before me I’ve always admired and looked up to. I’ve always been supportive of female rappers…it’s hard for us to be taken serious and valued for our work. It feels good to be able to get my music heard and have my talent respected by my musical peers.” We look forward to more music from hip-hop's sweetheart.
Finally, a long overdue collaboration between TRU Records trio C Murder, 2Meka Diaz, and Cuttboy G Dinero...BITCH! Produced by Cuttboy G Dinero, “Bitch” features TRU Records hazel-eyed beauty 2Meka Diaz, TRU Records President G Dinero, and the Commander-in-Chief C Murder.
Producer/rapper Cuttboy Dinero skillfully syncs piano keys and 808s while simultaneously creating a grimy, trap, dance record. “Bitch” encompasses non-stop, twisted back to back split verses between the trio, certainly a style of rap never heard before by C Murder himself as he rips through the track while planting his “forever stamp” on the Calliope Projects of New Orleans.
G Dinero opens the record with incessant rhymes and a unique gruff and grimy voice as he represents the TRU Records Empire, a label that has deep-rooted seeds in hip-hop with the T crooked R-U imprint. Meka the only female rapper on the track, stands out effortlessly among her male counterparts as she lyrically twists and triple twists through her verses bar for bar. It’s been a minute since hip-hop has heard a record uniquely and creatively crafted, as this threesome ignites a firestorm of continuous wordplay while remaining forever TRU 2 Da Game.
